Event description:

Join Soleil Ho and Head of College Mary Lui for a Timothy Dwight College Tea about food journalism. Ms. Ho is the restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, where her writing has included topics like the “Nihilism of the Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich,” and banning the word “ethnic” and “authentic” from her restaurant reviews. In her journalism, Ms. Ho brings a critical eye to food writing, using the lenses of race, gender, and class to craft powerful accounts about the people and cultures who make menus everywhere possible.
Ms. Ho is also a published graphic novelist (MEAL), and co-host of the multiple award-nominated podcasts Racist Sandwich and Propaganda. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Southern Foodways Alliance Smith Symposium Fellowship and a UC Berkeley-11th Hour Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship.
Chewing the Fat is the Yale Sustainable Food Program’s long-standing speaker series. All events are free and open to the public. This event is also hosted in collaboration with the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism, the Asian American Cultural Center at Yale and Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration.
