Event description:

The Chinese Heritage Language Teaching Workshop aims to learn the most recent linguistic studies and share pedagogical practices around the field of teaching Chinese as heritage language. As Chinese students have become more prominent in our higher education institutions, a greater number of Heritage Learners are enrolling in Chinese language courses. Their growing presence in our classrooms has motivated ample research in the recent years to study the specific needs and interests of these students in order to better serve them and help them reach their linguistic and cultural goals.
This workshop will contain three presentation sessions and one discussion session. We have invited linguists in the field of cross-cultural research as featured speakers. By the end of the workshop, you will learn the methods of designing curriculum and launching heritage language courses from instructors at institutions across the East and West coasts.
Speakers:
Agnes He, Professor of Applied Linguistics, Director of the Center for Multilingual and Intercultural Communication (MIC), SUNY-Stony Brook University
Yang Xiao-Desai, Associate Professor of Chinese, San Francisco State University
