Saumya Roy is a journalist and social entrepreneur from Mumbai. She co-founded a microfinance nonprofit in 2010. This is how she met the waste pickers who work on Mumbai’s Deonar garbage dump and stayed to chronicle their lives in the book- Castaway Mountain: Love and Loss Among the Waste Pickers of Mumbai.
The book is being published in the U.K, India, and in Chinese translation. She received fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, Blue Mountain Center, Carey Institute for Global Good, and Sangam House for writing this book.
