VIRTUAL: 10th Lunarfest: Lunar New Year arts and cultural celebration

Lunarfest is a celebration of the Lunar New Year and Chinese culture, offering arts and cultural programs for adults and children throughout the city of New Haven and at Yale. Lunarfest creates community bonds through schools, arts nonprofit, and business partnerships.

Programs begin in the fall each year and culminate in a series of performances and events celebrating Lunar New Year. Critical partners are Yale, the City of New Haven, Town Green, and the schools, arts nonprofits, and libraries that offer space to discover new cultures in the greater New Haven neighborhood.

The Global Health Studies Program will present its Spring 2021 Global Health Studies Speaker Series. The series—organized by Jackson Professor Catherine Panter-Brick and Jackson lecturer Cara Fallon—examines transformative relationships between health and a range of fields including public policy, law, technology, international relations, scientific research, economy, journalism, and more.
Clarence C. Gravlee, Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Florida, will present “Uprooting Racism, Promoting Health: Evidence and Action.”

Chevron's “Amazon Chernobyl” Disaster in Ecuador: Lessons from the Frontlines

The historic $9.5b pollution judgment won by Amazon communities in Ecuador against Chevron was the result of a substantive legal battle that has attracted the attention of legal scholars, Nobel Laureates, human rights organizations and climate activists worldwide. The case was brought by an international team of lawyers and community leaders led by Steven Donziger who faced off against 60 Chevron law firms and more than 2,000 lawyers retained by the company.

VIRTUAL: 25th Annual MLK Celebration: Open Mic and Poetry Jam in honor of Zanette Lewis

Join us for a reimagined Open Mic and Poetry Jam celebrating Dr. King through verse and spoken word. Hosted by Ngoma Hill and Croilot Semexan, this year’s event will honor Zanette Lewis who planted the seeds from which this signature program has grown.

The Open Mic will begin at 6pm and be followed by a tribute to Zanette Lewis featuring our hosts and a phenomenal line up of internationally recognized artists, including Taalam Acey, Roger Bonair Agard, Lyvonne Proverbs Briggs, Jessica Care Moore, Aaron Jafferis, and Sunni Patterson.

VIRTUAL: Father Soldier Son: A Conversation on Service, Sacrifice, and War

Join us on Veterans Day for a special livestream discussion with the journalists and filmmakers associated with Father Soldier Son, a Netflix documentary that follows the life of Master Sergeant Brian Eisch (U.S. Army) and his family over a 10-year period during his time in uniform, his deployment to Afghanistan, his combat-related injury and recovery, and his transition from the military to civilian life—documenting the challenges and struggles they faced along the way. This dialogue, building on the film, will explore the meaning of duty, honor, and sacrifice.
