VIRTUAL: Welcome to the New World Book Discussion with IRIS

The Office of International Students & Scholars is thrilled to be partnering with IRIS – Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services, for a discussion on Welcome to the New World, a graphic novel featured in The New York Times that came out of a collaboration between writer Jake Halpern, illustrator Michael Sloan, and two refugee families who resettled to Connecticut through IRIS. Now in a full-length book, the story follows the lives of two refugee families who fled the civil war in Syria to make a new life in America.

Deforestation in the Amazon has increased in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. A group of reporters, indigenous communities, non-profit organizations and activists work to defend the forest. How has their work been impacted by COVID-19?
The panel will be in Spanish, with simultaneous translation to English.

VIRTUAL: SDLAC 2021 Keynote - The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector and its Response to Covid-19: Initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Sixth Annual Conference on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on April 5th to April 9th, 2021 at the Yale School of the Environment. This year’s theme is “Recovering from the Pandemic Through Sustainability.”

The Kurds in the Middle East: Justice for Kurds

The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, in partnership with the nonprofit organization Justice for Kurds, will host a four-part virtual discussion series on “The Kurds in the Middle East.”
The conference opening on Tuesday, April 13, at 12:00 p.m. will feature a keynote address from Kurdistan Region President H.E. Nechirvan Barzani. Panel discussions will then include an impressive array of American, European, and Middle Eastern practitioners, including senior Kurdish representatives from Iraq and Syria.
