Business of Legal Cannabis Conference

The Yale Business of Legal Cannabis Conference was the first of its kind at any U.S. business school. Hosted by the Yale School of Management’s Business & Politics Club, the conference will be held on Friday, February 7th at Yale SOM’s campus. The 2020 theme is “The Canna-Boom: Building business and developing policy in uncharted territories”. The objective of the conference is to convene leaders from all sectors of society – private, government, and nonprofit – to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with the business of legal cannabis.

Gruber Distinguished Lecture in Global Justice with Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II

The Spring 2020 Gruber Distinguished Lecture in Global Justice will be delivered on February 24th by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. Barber is a pastor and social justice advocate building a broad-based grassroots movement, grounded in the moral tenets of faith-based communities and the constitution, to confront systemic racism, poverty, environmental devastation, the war economy and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism in America today.

Parents of LGBTQ Children Lunch

The office of LGBTQ Resources and the LGBTQ Affinity group host lunches for parents of LGBTQ children (and their allies) every third Thursday of each month. All parents of LGBTQ children–as well as LGBTQ staff & faculty and allies–are invited to share this space for support, community, and conversation.

Women of Yale Lecture Series: Art and Disruption

Quiara Alegría Hudes is a playwright and author originally from West Philly with roots in Boriken. Her play Water by the Spoonful won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Her Tony-winning Broadway musical In the Heights, written with Lin-Manuel Miranda, will soon be a major motion picture, adapted for the screen by Hudes. Together with her cousin Sean, Hudes cofounded Emancipated Stories, so people behind bars can share one page of their life story with those on the “outside.” See all the Emancipated Stories on Instagram at @emancipated_stories_project.

Web Accessibility Training for Content Editors

This half-day workshop is designed to train staff who input content into websites how to do so in ways that meet Yale’s Web Accessibility Policy. Note: This workshop is primarily for people who create content through tools such as Wordpress or YaleSites Drupal.

Developers Lunch-and-Learn: Accessibility

Yale ITS believes that learning accessibility and front-end best practices should be an ongoing, permanent process of training and skills development. To support developers’ continuing education, the Digital Accessibility Team is hosting monthly brown-bags where developers can bring their lunches and learn something about accessibility that they can begin implementing right away.

Captioning Training

Have media you need to caption, but unsure what your responsibilities are for captioning under Yale’s Accessibility Policy, where to begin, or what options are available? This two-hour training covers paid options for captioning your media through our Preferred Captioning Vendors 3Play Media and Rev.com, as well as free options, like YouTube. Attendees will leave understanding their obligations under Yale’s policy, the differences between the major captioning file types, and how to create, edit, and sync captions to their media for both Canvas courses and websites.

Accessible Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations and PDFs

This beginner’s document accessibility workshop is designed to train staff in the basic methods used for making Word documents, PowerPoint Presentations, and PDFs digitally accessible, for inclusion on University websites or for university-related business, including teaching, student services, and other administrative support. It is appropriate for anyone interested in learning how to make documents used in everyday university business more accessible and will cover the fundamentals of document creation and remediation.
