One, Episode 18: Carrie Mannino (Video Premiere)

In episode #18 of the Yale Schwarzman Center web series, “One,” Estefani Castro YSD21 interviews Carrie Mannino YC’20 about her senior thesis project in creative writing. Mannino’s documentary play, “It Couldn’t Happen Here,” delves into the aftermath of the October 2018 shooting at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The episode contains a dramatic reading of an excerpt from “It Couldn’t Happen Here” and explores insights from Mannino’s writing process.

African Dance Workshop

Join the Yale African American Affinity Group and Shari Caldwell for an African dance workshop. This dance class, also known as Contemporary African, infuses traditional African Dance with contemporary movement. An enjoyable rhythmic experience for lovers of the Motherland. The many cultures of Africa’s diaspora are well represented in this class. The music will capture and propel the soul of the novice as it does the seasoned artist. All are welcome!

10 Warning Signs of Dementia and 10 Ways to Love Your Brain

Join the Yale African American Affinity Group, Yale Latino Networking Group, and Dianne Davis for a presentation that will review signs and symptoms which may indicate the early stage of dementia, as well as lifestyle changes which promote brain health.

Dianne Davis, RN, MSN is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Yale Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. She is a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, and for many years worked with individuals with dementia and their families as a geriatric case manager at the Adler Geriatric Assessment Center.

VIRTUAL: Parenting Check-In

Join the next parenting check-in session on Wednesday, March 10 at 1:30 pm via Zoom. The check-in will serve as an opportunity for Yale community parents to check-in, share tips and tricks and concerns about our new normal of being parent(s), continued work responsibilities, and now the additional responsibility of homeschooling and managing the nuances of having babies and toddlers at home instead of daycare. The conversation will be a safe space for us to positively communicate and learn and grow from each other.
