Captioning Your Media at Yale: Options and Basics

Have media you need to caption, but unsure what your responsibilities are for captioning under Yale’s Accessibility Policy, where to begin, or what options are available? This two-hour training covers paid options for captioning your media through our Preferred Captioning Vendors 3Play Media and Rev.com, as well as free options, like YouTube. Attendees will leave understanding their obligations under Yale’s policy, the differences between the major captioning file types, and how to create, edit, and sync captions to their media for both Canvas courses and websites.

Accessible Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations and PDFs

This beginner’s document accessibility workshop is designed to train staff in the basic methods used for making Word documents, PowerPoint Presentations, and PDFs digitally accessible, for inclusion on university websites or for university-related business, including teaching, student services, and other administrative support. It is appropriate for anyone interested in learning how to make documents used in everyday university business more accessible and will cover the fundamentals of document creation and remediation.

The Yale Forest Forum offers weekly lunch talks during the academic year, providing opportunities to hear from leaders in forest management, conservation, or policy in an informal setting. The YFF speaker series is the longest continuously-running speaker series at F&ES. Speakers come from a wide range of organizations and perspectives, including government, NGOs and businesses, working at scales from local to international.

Siteimprove Basics

Siteimprove is a self-service application available to all Yale faculty and staff to give website owners the insight they need to work towards improving the quality and accessibility of their sites, optimize the site for search engine discovery, and capture basic analytics about site use to help prioritize improvement efforts. This training will include hands-on activities. There are computers available for use in the training room. However, if you prefer, you may bring your own laptop.

Leaders Forum Lunch: Jim Snabe, Chairman of the Board, Mærsk and Siemans

Please save the date for our first Yale SOM Leaders Forum talk of the semester. We will be welcoming Jim Snabe, Chairman of the Board, Mærsk and Siemens, and member of the Board of Trustees at World Economic Forum. The talk is entitled “Dreams and Details - Reinvent your Business and your Leadership from a Position of Strength.” Our speaker will present for 40 minutes, and there will be time for Q & A. The talk will be moderated by Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld, Senior Associate Dean for Leadership Studies & Lester Crown Professor in the Practice of Management at Yale.

Parents of LGBTQ Children Lunch

The office of LGBTQ Resources and the LGBTQ Affinity group host lunches for parents of LGBTQ children (and their allies) every third Thursday of each month. All parents of LGBTQ children–as well as LGBTQ staff & faculty and allies–are invited to share this space for support, community, and conversation.
