VIRTUAL: Higher Education in China & the U.S.: The Past, Present and Future of Chinese Students Studying Abroad and at Yale

Pericles Lewis, Vice President for Global Strategy and Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives at Yale University, and Ning Zhang, the former Deputy Secretary-General of the China Scholarship Council, will share their insights as part of the “Higher Education in China & the U.S.” series held by Yale Center Beijing on January 22 (EST).

VIRTUAL: Cafe IT - "Inclusionary Practices"

Red Bergeron and Andrew Gilkes members of Yale’s Climate, Culture, and Inclusion team invite you to a conversation about Inclusive Practices.
This will be a 90-minute session that will cover the what, why, and how of Inclusive Practices, speak about 5 specific Inclusionary Practices to build a foundation on the topic, and offer breakout rooms to discuss this topic in small groups before having a larger group discussion.
Resources for further learning will be provided at the end of the session.

In this virtual conversation, Tonika Johnson will discuss how she came to use her creativity to explore urban segregation in Chicago with her Folded Map project and how it can serve as a resource for understanding, an empathy generator, and a conduit for action.

Experience the enduring power of storytelling by participating in this annual tradition of honoring Dr. King through stories and song. Learn about and engage with his legacy through fables and a captivating program the whole family can enjoy. Featuring Clifton Graves (Chicken and the Eagle, The Creation), Joy Donaldson (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Word), and Waltrina Kirkland-Mullins. Dr. Robbie Thomas will also join us for a reading of her children’s book “Mommy, Why Am I Different?”

VIRTUAL: 25th Annual MLK Celebration: Open Mic and Poetry Jam in honor of Zanette Lewis

Join us for a reimagined Open Mic and Poetry Jam celebrating Dr. King through verse and spoken word. Hosted by Ngoma Hill and Croilot Semexan, this year’s event will honor Zanette Lewis who planted the seeds from which this signature program has grown.

The Open Mic will begin at 6pm and be followed by a tribute to Zanette Lewis featuring our hosts and a phenomenal line up of internationally recognized artists, including Taalam Acey, Roger Bonair Agard, Lyvonne Proverbs Briggs, Jessica Care Moore, Aaron Jafferis, and Sunni Patterson.

Curious about the winter birds you see outside your window? Join Museum staff from our Vertebrate Zoology Division and Education Department to learn about the native bird species you can find in your backyard this
season. Three of our experts will take you on a guided, behind-the-scenes tour through one of the country’s richest bird collections.
