Kern Samuel, a Wurtele Gallery Teacher and an M.F.A. candidate in Painting and Printmaking, Yale School of Art, explores issues of power and cultural history in three objects in the Gallery’s collection: an African power figure (Nkisi N’kondi; early 20th century), John Trumbull’s George Washington at Trenton (1792), and Titus Kaphar’s Shadows of Liberty (2016). Space is limited.
