Event description:

Increasing work/school/family life obligations and a culture of constant connection to mobile devices has led many Americans to a persistent state of sleep deprivation. Chronic sleep deprivation not only reduces productivity, it can impair mood, learning, memory, and physical performance. Medical disorders associated with lack of sleep or sleep disorders include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Attendees will leave with a basic understanding of 1) the science of sleep, 2) the effects of sleep on performance and health, and 3) best practices for optimal sleep. This lecture is not a discussion of chronic insomnia or specific sleep disorders. No medical or science background is needed. This informative session will be led by Janet Hilbert MD in partnership with Being Well at Yale and WorkLife. Dr. Hilbert is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine (Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine section). She is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine. Her clinical focus is in Sleep Medicine, with particular interests in raising awareness of sleep issues and in treating complex sleep breathing disorders.
