Convene Committee on Public Art
The Committee on Art in Public Spaces is surveying the campus community for views, suggestions, and proposals for art, and developing principles to guide the creation, acquisition, and installation of public art on campus.
The Women Faculty Forum has developed a database of the art in public spaces in all 12 residential colleges, the Hall of Graduate Studies, Woolsey Hall, the Divinity School, Sterling Memorial Library, and the School of Medicine, with other areas to be included over the upcoming months.
Continue conversation about names for new residential colleges and name of Calhoun College
On January 25, 2016, Secretary and Vice President for Student Life Kim Goff-Crews invited the Yale campus community to attend one of two open meetings on these topics with Yale Corporation Senior Fellow Margaret H. Marshall. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni also can submit their comments regarding the name of Calhoun College and the naming of the two new residential colleges through an online form.
On April 28, 2016, President Salovey announced the decisions on the names for Yale’s two new colleges and the title of “master” in the residential colleges. The new residential colleges will be named for Pauli Murray ’65 J.S.D., ’79 Hon. D.Div.—a Yale Law School alumna noted for her achievements in law and religion, and for her leadership in civil rights and the advancement of women—and Benjamin Franklin 1753 Hon. M.A.—a trusted advisor to Yale’s seventh president, Ezra Stiles, and a founding father whose immense accomplishments span the arts, the sciences, government, and service to society. The title of “master” in the residential colleges has been changed to “head of college.”
On February 12, 2017, President Salovey announced that the university would rename Calhoun College to honor one of Yale’s most distinguished graduates, Grace Murray Hopper ’30 M.A., ’34 Ph.D.
