Condemning Anti-Asian Violence and Racism

February 18, 2022

The murders of Michelle Go and Christina Yuna Lee are tragic reminders that hate crimes against Asian Americans have increased significantly over the last two years. Asian American women have been disproportionately targeted by violence - 68% of 3,800 reported anti-Asian hate incidents between March 2020-March 2021 were against women. We stand with our Asian American staff, faculty, alumni, and students in condemning these increased acts of violence, discrimination, and harassment.

Asian American members of the university community can find resources, support, and solace through the Asian American Cultural Center and the Asian Network at Yale. AAPI New Haven was recently established as a community resource in response to the spike in anti-Asian violence.

At Yale each person must be treated with dignity and proper respect.  In emergency situations, always call 911.  For non-emergencies call Yale Police Department at 203-432-4400.  If you face harassment or discrimination, please reach out for support and resources.  Individuals with concerns can contact deans’ designees or the Office of Institutional Equity and Access (OIEA).
