Secretary and Vice President for University Life, Kimberly M. Goff-Crews sent the following message to students, faculty, staff, and alumni on Monday, February 28, 2022.
Dear Members of the Yale Community,
In October 2020, Yale announced a set of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging actions that advance our university’s pursuit of excellence and its mission of improving our world. We have made much progress already, and I look forward to continuing to work together to create an environment that supports full participation in the life of the university for each of us. Today marks the official launch of a series of Belonging at Yale community programs, with an invitation to explore what we will be—together.
Earlier this month, I wrote to share infographic posters highlighting accomplishments, current activities, and long-term commitments in the 5-year diversity, equity, and inclusion plans developed by schools and administrative units. I also shared opportunities to celebrate our colleagues and classmates and raise awareness around Black History Month. Looking ahead, you are invited to:
- Learn about the community we’re fostering and engage with fellow students, faculty, staff, and alumni about belonging at Yale.
- Visit Belonging at Yale’s updated website.
- Get involved by joining organizations, attending events, and exploring other opportunities to learn, including our March feature on Women’s History Month.
- Register for the first event in the My Story series, my conversation with a student, faculty member, staff member, and an alumnus about their experiences with belonging at Yale, held virtually on March 8.
While there is still much work to do, we share a commitment to Yale’s excellence. Whether you are already an active contributor to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts at Yale or are exploring this work for the first time, I am excited to collaborate with you in the coming months, and to see what we will be—together.
Warm regards,
Kimberly M. Goff-Crews
