Want to talk about queer topics and their intersections, but too anxious to speak up in discussions? And/Or do you enjoy personal reflections and/or creative writing? Come to Queer Writing Collective! The purpose of the collective is to create a safe space to explore our multi-faceted, intersectional queer identities through imagination and reflection in a low-stress environment. And, to build a learning community where we engage with each other’s stories and express solidarity across our differences. Open to members of the Yale and New Haven community!
We’ll have a queer topic every week either chosen by the facilitator or the collective. Respond in any way you’d like, whether that be through writing your own personal experiences or creative fiction. Any form or genre is welcomed! No writing experience or expertise necessary. At the end of each session, we’ll have time for volunteers to share their stories and for listeners to share any comments. If there is enough member interest, the Queer Writing Collective will host a public reading at the end of the semester for the Yale and New Haven community.
Writing supplies provided (loose sheets of paper & pens), but feel free to bring your own journal/notebook. We’ll be collecting feedback on how to further structure the collective. If you have any questions or if you want to be added to the weekly email blast about the next week’s writing topic reach out to caro.vera@yale.edu!
