The Yale Japanese American Students Union and Asian American Cultural Center invite the Yale community to commemorate the 78th anniversary of President Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the incarceration of 120,000 Americans of Japanese descent in U.S. concentration camps during World War II. Yale’s 2020 Day of Remembrance will feature a fireside chat with Mr. Frank Sato, former Inspector General of the Departments of Transportation and Veterans Affairs. At age 13, Mr. Sato was incarcerated with his family at Camp Harmony Prison, then Minidoka Prison, where they remained until the war ended. Mr. Sato later served on the National Board of the Japanese American Citizens League, first as National Secretary/Treasurer (1982-1984), then as National President (1984-1986), playing a critical role in the redress movement that culminated in President Reagan’s apology and signing of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. Join us in Rosenfeld Hall GR 109 for this special evening of community building and remembrance. All are welcome. Dinner will be provided.
