2nd Annual Yale Black Venture Summit: Maximizing Momentum

Please join us for our second Annual Yale Black Venture Summit this Friday April 26 at Edward P. Evans Hall, bringing together Black founders, investors, and ecosystem builders to foster community around Black entrepreneurship.

Hosted by the Black Business Alliance at Yale School of Management, the conference features Black founders, ecosystem builders, and investors from across industries including keynotes from Gary Stewart, MD of Techstars NYC and André Swanston, the first Black owner of an MLS sports team.

Mrinal Sen Centennial: Bhuvan Shome (1969)

Opening night of Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen Centennial and Retrospective!

This comedy-drama revolves around the unexpected bond that develops between Bhuvan Shome, a disciplinarian railway official and Gauri, a young bride of one of Shome’s subordinates, during his brief sojourn in a village in Gujarat.

Mrinal Sen Centennial: Ek din Pratidin / And the Quiet Rolls the Dawn (1979)

Part of legendary Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen Centennial and Retrospective!

In a middle-class household, the daughter who financially supports her family doesn’t come back from work one evening. The evening starts with concerns at home, leading to late-night searches and eventually escalating into a crisis fueled by the economic and moral limitations of the Bengali society.

Mrinal Sen Centennial: Matira Manisha / Two Brothers (1966)

Part of legendary Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen Centennial and Retrospective!

Based on esteemed Odia author Kalindi Charan Panigrahi’s classic text, this is Sen’s first film outside Bengal. The film explores the clash between traditional and modern values through the contrasting perspectives of two brothers regarding their inherited land. One brother embodies traditional values, while the other represents modernity. Their differing attitudes towards the land serve as a lens through which the broader theme of cultural evolution and societal change is examined.

A24 and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences present a special screening of the highly anticipated drama SING SING.

Description: Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men, including wary newcomer (Clarence Maclin), in this stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors.

Curator's Talk: "Whaling Logbooks: Records of a Maritime Industry" 2024 Senior Fellowship Exhibit

Please join us to celebrate the opening of Whaling Logbooks: Records of a Maritime Industry, on view in the Sterling Library Exhibition Corridor from April 29 to October 6, 2024. Curator AJ Laird ’24 will provide a tour of this exciting exhibition and will be available for questions and conversation over light refreshments afterwards. No registration is necessary.

MENA x YAAA talk: "Defining MENA"

This talk will examine the Middle East as simultaneously a foreign policy and domestic concern for diaspora communities. Frequently, a site of ambiguity and contention within domestic law and international institutions, the census rollout of the category demands careful attention to historical nuances, long-standing community activism, and the pitfalls of any kind of institutionalization that excludes.

New Haven Composers Spotlight

The New Haven Composers Spotlight, a collaboration between three emergent composers and 15 local musicians, will debut on April 20, 2024. Supported by both the Mellon Foundation and Arts Council of Greater New Haven via the Artist Corps grant, the Composers Spotlight highlights unique and emerging composers in New Haven and to pair these composers with a large ensemble of musicians from across the institutions and musical communities of the city. The performances span genres from swing and jazz to R&B and contemporary classical music.
