During this event you will learn about Yale’s nine affinity groups, discover new cultures; sample food from other cultures; join a community that values and embraces difference; celebrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging; and network with a new colleague.

VIRTUAL: Belonging at Yale Series - Belonging: Do we need a deeper exploration?

The Future Leaders of Yale, Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Belonging at Yale invite you to the Belonging at Yale Series. This three-event series will focus on belonging in a complex workplace. These events will explore what the new term of belonging at an organization means and offer diverse experiences and pathways to show and be authentic in a workspace.

The first part of this series will take place on Friday, October 27th, 2023 from 12:00-1:00PM around the topic of “Belonging: Do we need a deeper exploration?”

James R. Brudner '83 Memorial Prize and Lectures 2023-24: Cheryl Dunye (in New York City)

The James Robert Brudner ‘83 Prize, established in 2000, is awarded annually to an accomplished scholar, artist, or activist whose work has made significant contributions for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and sexual minority communities. The Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies, and the Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies faculty are honored to present this prize to Cheryl Dunye for 2023-24.

Cooking Sofrito With the YLNG Co-Chairs

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, join the Yale Latino Networking Group (YLNG) Co-Chairs, Janitza Matta and Ilsa Oltero, for a cooking demonstration of sofrito on Wednesday, September 27th from 5-7 pm at 60 Temple Street, 1st Floor Conference Room. Supplies will be provided for all attendees.

Sofrito is a flavorful and aromatic base used in many Hispanic and Latin American cuisines. While it may not be exclusive to Hispanic traditions, it has become a significant and widely recognized component in Hispanic and Latin culinary cultures.

City Rewritten: The Oak Street Connector and Urban Renewal in New Haven

“City Rewritten: The Oak Street Connector and Urban Renewal in New Haven” explores the effects of the formative era of urban renewal on New Haven’s urban landscape and social history. Urban renewal was a progressive vision aimed at revitalizing a city’s economy, beautifying the urban landscape, removing residents from substandard living conditions, and promoting racial integration. However, historians and urban planners have largely viewed the policy as a failure, one that disproportionately displaced impoverished Black people and reinforced patterns of segregation.
