Wayne Hsiung focuses his activism on exposing cruelty and rescuing animals in factory farms, leading to a “domestic terrorism” investigation by the FBI. He currently faces 16 felony charges in 4 criminal cases and will go on trial in mid 2020. His work has been featured in WIRED, The New York Times, and The Intercept.

Caylin Louis Moore grew up in the Compton and South-Central Los Angeles area of California where dreaming big was risky. Today, he is a 25-year-old who overcame a troubled childhood to become a Rhodes Scholar. A Dream Too Big is an eye-opening, inspirational story, that contrary to what others told him, there is no such thing as a dream too big. Moore will be at Saint Thomas More on Thursday to talk about his memoir and will be at Mory’s for a meet and greet. Books will be available for signing and purchase.
Charles Barber will read from his new book “Citizen Outlaw: One Man’s Journey from Gangleader to Peacekeeper,” a dramatic account of the life of William Juneboy Outlaw. Mr. Outlaw will also speak and take questions.

Lunarfest is a celebration of the Lunar New Year and Chinese culture, offering arts and cultural programs for adults and children throughout the city of New Haven and at Yale. Special events are programmed in January and February, but save the date for the big day on Saturday, February 8, 2020, which kicks off with a parade at 10:00AM along Church Street and Whitney Avenue (between Elm and Trumbull Street). Then head indoors to visit many or all of our venues with special activities and programs featuring food, art, music, literature, and dance.
The Connecticut FBI Outreach Team, Yale Police Department, New Haven Police Department, and Connecticut State Police invite the public to a unique event called Community, Cops and Culture which is designed to build and strengthen relationships between ethnic communities and law enforcement. The project is intended to raise respect and tolerance for diversity through cultural education and interaction with police officers.
Abdul-Razak Zachariah grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, and is a loyal 2017 TD alum. He was deeply involved in diversity and inclusion advocacy and received the Mellon Mays Research Fellowship and the Nakanishi Prize. Abdul’s first book, The Night is Yours, was released in July 2019 by Dial Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The story is based on the apartment complex and community where he grew up in West Haven. The Night is Yours is the product of his Education Studies capstone project.
